If they had made the rivalry trophy a giant pork tenderloin sandwich and allowed either the state of Iowa or the state of Indiana to be the official inventor of said sandwich for the year following the victory, I think it could have gained traction.

Alas, t'was not meant to be.

Great article. Really appreciate you not mentioning anything silly and arbitrary like “points per game”.

Love the article. I appreciate going back to the initial premise of why the rivalry matchups were protected. I think it's time to consider dropping it altogether though. Michigan and Ohio St were great games because they often decided the Big Ten Championship.

If Michigan and Ohio St. are the two best teams, then they will play each other in the big ten championship. Forcing them to play each other every year is like conceding they both don't deserve to be in the Championship game.

Playing every other year minimum is great improvement over any of the division led schedules of the past.

I was 4 years old for 1 v 2 at Kinnick… so 2009 for the White Out is my greatest memory as an Iowa fan. 2008 is probably in my top 5. So yeah… I am totally on board. Even more so is we pull off the shocker this Saturday. Go Hawks!
