God I loved BHGP. I was fairly obsessed and was reading and commenting multiple times daily, especially when I lived in SoCal and BHGP was a lifeline to my Iowa roots. I chose to stop reading when it moved to Rivals, not for corporate overlord reasons but because I truly believe Caring Is Creepy and will never give eyeballs or money to recruiting sites. But for a while, for a good long while and a great damn time, Pat and Adam and Ross meant a whole hell of a lot to me. Thanks guys. Thanks for everything.

“I got thrown out of the 2010 spring game merely by associating with two of our readers.”

To be fair, you got kicked out because you are so GD tall that you were easy to spot. And I maintain that my choice of White Russians that morning was a completely acceptable option for a spring game tailgate.

Bob Diaco, you’re getting fired tomorrow has to exist somewhere.

Adam Woodbury becoming a professional wrestler was a good one too. Didn’t that get picked up as real news?

Nice work.

Le sigh. I think I started reading when it was still Steve Alford’s Hair Gel. For a long time, it was my favorite thing on these here internets. Nothing gold can stay. Thanks for everything.

BHGP/GIA has had a positively profound effect on my Iowa fandom and it's been an absolute pleasure following the team even if I never fully embraced the Rivals era. I can honestly say my relationship with the Iowa Hawkeyes is healthier because of my experiences reading your guys' content over the years. It's taught me how to be passionate but leave plenty of room for criticality and irreverence. I'm glad you are continuing to write when you have a chance.

Also there's still a bit of community activity in the GIA discord. You should pop in more often, as should the former writers. I assume they have some sort of admin privileges from when it was created. There's a ton of potential there to continue to foster the community created by BHGP/GIA that may still want an outlet for it.

Commenting late as I, another Law Guy, was in the middle of a trial.

I had zero involvement in any kind of social sites or blogs, kinda knew what they were but was plenty busy with life, when it was either Morehouse or Hlas, back when access to The Gazette was free, who recommended checking out BHGP. It was maybe 2009 but I think 2010, and as a fish-out-of-water 48 year old with teenaged kids living far from the action in Arizona, I checked it out.

From that first time in, I never stopped. It was not as much about the games as much as it was the blend of absurdism, satire, 'batshit crazy' as it was referred then, and the occasional venture into serious issues that kept me looking in pretty much every single day. Looking back, kind of floods the mind with all the different articles; Marchifornication, touchdowns followed by funerals, Frosted Steaks, Paterno's 'Filthy Spaniards', KOKaine, The Inkon Sola Bowl, and so many others. I also remember the CTE article written upon Dave Duerson's passing, and just a few years later, the loss of one of our own, Tyler MF Sash, to CTE. The big move to GIA pulled most of the BHGP people along, though things did slow down a little--you guys had your own life changes, to which I could fully relate. I never paid for access to a site until GIA moved to Rivals. The mission there wasn't the same, but I paid anyway if for no other reason but a gesture in appreciation for so many good years. Sad that it has now gone as well, though you might pry a couple of bucks out of me yet, here.

I met Hayden Fry on a dais back when I was at Iowa, as I had a student position with Homecoming one year. Quick shake of hands, pleasantries for 5 seconds, done. Over the years I thought about wanting to somehow run into him again, maybe up in Nevada where he retired and I visited a few times each year. Never happened but I wanted to tell him, "Thank you for the fun and enjoyment you helped bring to my college years." As the BHGP/GIA era officially comes to a close, I offer this to you, Adam and Ross--Thank you for the fun and enjoyment you brought to me as a distant, aging but enduring Iowa fan.

Thanks for the content. Thanks for the laughs. Thanks for the passion. And if you happen to see me at Quinton’s on a Homecoming Friday around parade time, always say hello. Go Hawks!!

So we beat on, keyboards against the algorithm, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Forever trying to tell the story right, with just enough spite and far too much love.

As someone who recently lost a lot of personal blog data (and paid way too much money to recover it) I feel for the lost GIA archives, that stint was so interesting, but I absolutely can't forget how BHGP made my move from Iowa City to Kansas City so much easier because I knew some people from online that helped me settle in well. Also love AIRBHG and the fest we had (getting to meet you all and the "hidden Adam Jacobi" because of that whole situation.
