Man, I like Fran. The basketball is fun, if heartbreaking, and he’s been a genuinely great talent-finder and developer. But I think this NIL age is just not for him. (I love the NIL and transfer portal; and I don’t know if Fran dislikes it). Losing starters to lesser teams, bringing in transfers from 300+ rated teams. Add in that they have yet to get a recruit for this season, and I don’t know. 🤷♂️
I’ve been following Iowa basketball for 60 years and this is the most apathetic I’ve seen the fan base. Time for a change in men’s basketball and it can’t come soon enough for me. Thanks Fran for righting the ship after Lickliter but we need fresh blood in the program (and defense). Beth needs to start earning her money and putting her stamp on Iowa athletics. This will be the first step in her vision for the future. Can’t wait to see what that decision will be.
Wait... are you SURE there wasn't a student section under Dr. Tom? It wasn't the "Hawk's Nest"... but I thought there was a section or two of reserved seats for students.
Regardless... I bought season tickets for the first time SINCE college this year, because they removed one of the student sections and I was able to get super awesome tickets. But... living in Chicago, I'll probably only make it 5-6 times. Those times, however, I'll sure as hell be standing!
For me there's such a pre-season vibe in November. The December slate actually looks decent with 2 B1G games plus ISU. But the only other decent 2024 matchups (Wazzu and Utah) are in Sioux Falls and Moline. I've never watched an NFL preseason game, and I just can't get excited enough to even start thinking about basketball when the opening month includes Rider, USC Upstate, TAMU-Commerce? I almost believed you that they are the Secretaries. In fairness, Sparty's early schedule looks a lot like ours (swap ISU for Kansas) but their arena will be full, and should be with nearly double our enrollment.
